Mr Muldoon to address Queensland party dinner

NZPA Sydney The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) will meet the New Zealand-born premier of Queensland (Mr John BjelkePetersen, during stopovers at Brisbane on the way to and from the South Pacific Forum at Port Morseby.

Mr Muldoon will stay in Brisbane tomorrow night, and is expected to have breakfast with Mr BjelkePetersen before continuing his journey to Port Moresby on Friday. Special arrangements are being made for Mr Muldoon to fly to Brisbane via Cairns on September 1 after the forum ends.

Mr Muldoon has agreed to address a dinner of the National Party in Queensland — the party that Mr Bjelke-Petersen leads. There are no scheduled flights out of Port Moresby to Australia

on Thursdays, and a special flight is being organised to fly Mr Muldoon and others attending the forum to Cairns, where they can link with scheduled Australian internal services.

The dinner, to be held at Lennons Plaza Hotel, is expected to 'e attended by 300 to 400 paying guests. The executive director of the National Party in Queensland (Mr M. Evans) told the NZPA that the dinner was not a fund-raising event. The party had organised similar dinners before, but this would be the first time a visiting Prime Minister had attended as the guest speaker. Mr Evans said that he had personally tendered the invitation to Mr Muldoon when on a recent visit to New Zealand. The similarities between

the National Party in Queensland and the National Party in New Zealand were “quite remarkable,” he said.

The National Party is known as the Country Party in other Australian states, and forms the coalition Government in Canberra with the Liberal Party. A possible subject which Mr Muldoon and Mr BjelkePetersen will discuss is the use of television advertising in political campaigns. An election before the end of the year has been tipped for Queensland, and the National Party in Queensland is reported to have drawn up plans for a film about the premier after the success of a similar venture about Mr Muldoon.

Mr Evans said he spent some time with National Party officials in New Zealand during his recent visit.
