Official report and prices
Values did not change a great deal when the first Ti-J maru wool sale of the sea-j son was held at the Wool’ Exchange at Addington yesterday, according to the official report issued by the New Zealand Wool Buyers’ Association, the New Zea-' land Wool Brokers’ Association, and the New Zealand Wool Marketing Corporation. Compared with the In-; vercargill and Dunedin sales i held in Dunedin last week, ! the market for halfbred and crossbred fleece, and also for crossbred second-shear wool, was quoted as unchanged, for crossbred crutchings as firm, for crossbred skirtings | and oddments as in sellers’' favour, and for halfbred i skirtings as in buyers’! favour. The main competition i came from Western and Eastern Europe, supported by local mills, but the market had to be supported substantially by the Wool Marketing Corporation by bidding on 77.9 per cent of the catalogues and purchasing or having passed to it 4431 bales, or 27.7 per cent, of the offering. The offering of 11,955 bales of greasy wool and 39 bales of scoured wool was drawn mainly from South and Mi d-Canterbury. I Reflecting the open winter l
and good feed conditions, the showing was of a good I ; standard, especially the early shorn fleece which! opened up on a par with the j excellent display at the same 's fixture a vear ago. The wools were sound, well grown, of good length, and high yielding. Most 1 were of good colour and lustre, but clips from some districts carried more condition and discolouration. There was also some moit. The crutchings and bellies were of good average stan- j dard, but possibly a little shorter than usual, and those shorn after the recent j wet weather carried light i mud. The oddments were of a similar standard. i The limited offering of Merino, halfbred and Coririedale wools was well grown, of good colour and yield, and included some choice lots. The selection included 40 per cent of crossbred fleece, 14 per cent of fine fleece, 18 per cent of crutchings, 15 per cent of bellies, 11 per cent of oddments, and 2 per cent of miscellaneous wools.
