Prime ewe prices fall sharply
| Addington Market
Most prime stock values were, firm to slightly easier at the Ad-i dington Market yesterday. The main change was seen in the prime sheep section where, after a buoyant market last: week, values lor ewes went' sharply into reverse. [ Good quality butchers' lambs , were sligntly firmer, mainly because of a seduced yarding. Steers were not far short of last weeks rates in the cattle section,; but heifers were generally stead-, ier on the rales of the last two! sales. Prime lambs Prime lambs continued to meet a very firm sale. The yarding was 1770, compared with 2843 last week, and in common with recent sales, quality was varied, with another fair selection of ; fairly light lambs. However, there was again regular interest from an export buyer, thus ensuring a good floor to the market. The good quality medium to heavy-weight lambs were a little stronger on last week’s rates at the best of the sale; other lambs ranged from firm to slightly easier. Values were:— Exceptional lambs, to $22 60. Prime heavy lambs, $lB to $19.50. Medium lambs. $l6 to $17.50. Light lambs, $l4 to $15.50. Leading sales of prime lambs included: — 1 R. B. i After a buoyant market last* (week, the market fell by $5 to s6' a head. The yarding, at 1250< head was a long way ahead of’ (last week's tally of 53U and this ;no doubt contributed to the ialli 'in values. However, for a city I the size of Christchurch, it ’ as; surprising that retail buyers did not manage to absorb the ottering much more readily. Some excellent quality ewes were offered. Most of them were, jdry ewes or late lambers from! ! Corriedale and halfbred flocks.! Fortunately there was interest' from farmers iii ewes closer to i lambing.
