The last work in the conversion of the old Savoy Theatre to a new twin cinema was still being done yesterday, Just two days before the opening of the theatres. Savoy One is shown at the left Converting the old theatre into a twin cinema has taken about five months. There would still be some work to be done after the opening tomorrow night, said the manager of the theatres, (Mr O. Steeman).
A premiere for invited guests of a Walt Disney film, “Freaky Friday,” will mark the opening. The theatres will be open to the public on Thursday, screening “The Prince and the Pauper” in the upstairs cinema, Savoy Two, and “Freaky Fridav” downstairs in Savoy One. Total seating in the theatres will be about 300 less than in the old Savoy, with 384 seats in Savoy One and 528 seats in Savoy Two.
