Talks on bus time change
A time-table change proposed by the Christchurch Transport Board has again I raised the question of bus drivers’ hours of work. Members of the Christchurch branch of the Tramway Workers’ Union met in Christchurch yesterday to discuss a 7.15 p.m. finish for broken-shift workers, which the time-table change would require. The men now finish at 6.50 p.m. A later finish would also, mean a later start for; drivers on the Sumner-Ric-carton run, said the branch secretary (Mr M. Dawson) last evening. The board had : to keep its split shifts within a 12-hour period, and
drivers now finishing at 6.50 p.m. were already working ! to those limits. Representatives of the branch would meet the general manager of the board (Mr M. G. Taylor) this morn ing to discuss “the proposed i change," Mr Dawson said. Fifty of the 280 members of the branch had attendee’ th meeting yesterday. If Mr lay lor thought the opinion of the meeting was not rep resentative. the union would ,be prepared to hold stopwork meetings, said Mr Dawson. He thought some members had stayed away because they knew the meeting would reflect their opinion.
