Canterbury gets back bowls title

Canterbury regained the A. Williamson Trophy for indoor bowls from North Otago in a close struggle at Kearneys Road on Saturday. The close win was in spite of • Canterbury having an 18-6 lead ’after the first round. Both first round fours were won easily by Canterbury, but lack Smith held Canterbury’s : Derek Watts to a draw in their pairs And Olwyn Ford snatched a 4-3 win oxer David Philpott in a real thriller. The singles saw Mrs Ford and Philpott fight out a six-all draw, as did Chns Pepperell and North Otago’s Anne Smith. In the second round. -Jack Smith thrashed Derek Thomas’s ifour, 11-2, and Derek Watts and ; Bill Barrow fought out a draw' in the fours. Smith gave Thomas another ’lesson in the pairs, and Mrs
