Children on charges of kidnapping
NZPA-Reuter New York A 12-year-old girl has been arrested and charged with kidnapping a 5-year-old boy and holding him for the ransome of a new dress and the price of a new pair of shoes, the New’ York police say.
They say they found Hasan Brown, of Manhattan, unharmed on Monday on a subway platform in the company of the girl, who once was the boy’s baby-sitter. Two of the girl’s friends, aged 13 and 15, have also been arrested in connection with the case, he said. None of the girls was identified because of their ares.
An adult, Elizabeth Lindsay, of Brooklyn, had also been arrested and charged with unlawful imprisonment and criminal facilitation for allowing the children to remain at her apartment, the police said. The police said the babysitter had called the boy’s home where she reached a neighbour and demanded a new dress and $l7 for a new pair of shoes as the condition for the youngster’s release.
