Awards keenly sought by all exhibitors

“Exhibitors at the Canterbury Furniture Show will all be looking towards the six awards for premier furniture and furnishing fabrics.” The best display of furniture and the best display of fabrics will be judged by an independent judge, Mrs Vera McKay, the colour consultant for Taubmans International (N.Z.), Ltd, a paint manufacturing firm. Retailers registered at the show will vote for the

four “best furniture” awards: the best lounge suite, the best dining suite, the best bedroom suite, and the best individual piece of furniture. The requirements for the best furniture awards have been narrowed this year to make voting easier for the retailer. Now the awards will be restricted to furniture that is wholly New Zealand-made and that is on display in a New Zealand furniture show* for the first time. This ruling must be adhered to, said the chair-

man of the furniture trade group of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association (Mr K. S. Watson). In the past some manufacturers had tried to get away with importing a suite from overseas and passing it off as their own, he said. Attempts at this had been discovered and exhibitors had been disqualified immediately. Immediate disqualification would again apply to any manufacurer who tried the same thing this year, he said.
