$424 gift to Marylands
Four Christchurch youths who two months ago, ran from Hanmer Springs to Christchurch in a day to raise money for the Marylands Special School, presented it with a cheque for $424 last weekend.
The youths needed 10 hours to run the 82 miles, taking it in turns to do fivemile stages. All four completed the last section to the gates of Christ’s College together, and were greeted by two mini-bus loads of pupils from the school for the intellectually handicapped. The runners were J. A; S. Reese, and his brother D. Reese, W. H. J. Trengrove, and J. C. M. Davie. In addition to their initial sponsorship, there were contributions by people along the route.
