Riccarton pensioner flat plans
The Riccarton Borough Council will consider providing more pensioner cottages. The Mayor (Mr R. W. J. Harrington) said last night that the borough still led New Zealand in the provision of pensioner cottages, but with 70 applicants waiting the council should not rest on its laurels. The land was available, and Mr Harrington suggested the council should set the necessary machinery in motion to get another 12 units in Walsall Street and a further four, available for resale, in Nelson Street. The committees of the council will report on the proposal.
