New Baptist church

A Baptist church and social centres costing $70,000 will be built in Fuller Street, Kaiapoi. The building, which should be ready in the New Year, is described byRev E. J. Pollard, of Kaiapoi, as a “seven-day-a-week rather than a one-day-a-week building.” It will replace a church built in 1899. Mr Pollard said the new church would enable the Kaiapoi Baptist parish to extend its community activities. The church would be an asset to the community, not just for the Baptists.

The 464 square metre, concrete-block complex will have seating for 250. It will have a large entrance lounge with a kitchen attached so that parishioners and others can meet for coffee. Mr Pollard will have an office in the front of the building where he will be available for community counselling. There will be a hall ar. the back of the church. Parishioners have raised about a third of the cost of building and the rest will be financed by loans. The architect is Arch Goodwin Designs, Ltd, of Christchurch.
