Jenkins attacked by Front
NZPA-Reuter London
The British extreme Right-wing party, the National Front. has attacked the British Home Secretary (Mr Roy Jenkins) for accusing it of being intolerant, provocative, and unrepresentative. Mr John Tyn.'xl, chairman of the Front, which campaigns against coloured imimigration, told a radio inIterviewer that many Britons 'shared the party’s views, i “If we are intolerant at all, lit is of people of the meni tality of Mr Jenkins who will (not take heed of the wishes of a large number of people on the coloured invasion.” He dismissed as “damned impertinence” a comment by Mr Jenkins on Sunday that the Front sought to stay just on the right side of the law with its marches and demonstrations. In a speech to community workers, Mr Jenkins also said that the Front hoped, “by their provocative manner, to push others into the violence of language and action which will bring them the publicity and the advantage that can develop out of a general sense of disorder and chaos.” The National Front, which unsuccessfully contested 160 Parliamentary' seats in the last General Election in 1974, hopes to put up at least 318 candidates for the next election. It has been gaining increasing support in recent Parliamentary and local civic elections, but is still a relatively small fringe party.
