Royal sympathy for N.Z. plight
NZPA Montreal Prince Phillip has spent almost 20 minutes discussing the South Africa question with the management of the New Zealand team at the Olympic Games in Montreal. The team’s manager (Mr J. W. Holley) said he was leaning on a railing at a reception for team members which was given by the Queen. ‘Prince Phillip just walked up and started to chat. I didn’t realise who it was for a second,” he said. "He expressed sympathy with the situation that has
arisen, and with the added responsibility falling on the New Zealand team management as a result of all these happenings. “Naturally he didn't express any view, and one would not expect him to express one, but he was knowledgeable on the subject.” The runners Jack Foster and Euan Robertson were the New Zealanders selected at random to talk with the Queen and Prince Charles. The New Zealand team drew lots for their 13 places at the reception, though Mr Holley and the flag carrier, David' Aspin, were exempt from the ballot.
