Opal snatch in Taupo
PA Hamilton A would-be purchaser ran off with about $2OOO worth of opals after viewing them at a Taupo home on Friday. The police said the man visited a woman ?t her Acacia Bay home shortly before 1 p.m. in response to a newspaper advertisement which offered the opals for sale. He was shown 200 opals on a tray, on the >un-porch of the house. He then asked to see more, and as the woman turned to walk back into the house to get them, he ran off with the gems. Each of the opals had ; a price label, and they were 'displayed on a 30cm by 15cm wooden tray with a blue velvet lining.
