In the second representative women's hockey match of the ceaeon against Ashburton at Ashburton on Sundav. Canterbury gave a much improved display to win VO Its hopes of playing well at the New Z-aland tournament in September are now brighter. Canterbury settled down ouickl' in the first half and under the guidance of its captain. The Canterbury defence was *ound and confident Janet Gailowa> played an excellent game at right-back, her sure trapping and skilful dodging being a feature of her pi a.' Lesley Shankiand. in goal, cleared competently the few time t she was called on Christine McCauio adapted to her nev position at right-half ierv well. The right-back. Jenny Ward, was the best of the Ashburton defence. Canterbury B started stronglv against Ashburton B and was soon leading. 2-0. Barbara Roper •was the mainstay of the Canter bun attack, the goal she scored being a good effort. Canterbury ’s second goal came when Barbara Ovenden converted a penalty stroke.
