KEY SITUATION

A young student boarded.' with a Christchurch family for several years, before moving to another city to take up a position. During the time he stayed with them, the family had grown extremely fond of him. In fact, they regarded him as part of their household. He had a standing invitation to stay with them whenever he was in Christchurch and he carried with him the spare key that he had used during his student

days. It was not unusual for the householders to arrive home to find their friend waiting inside to greet them aFfectionatley. They liked it that way. One evening, after a crowded day and a late business appointment, he let himself in to the house and as the place was in darkness, went quietly to his room. After a sound night’s sleep he dressed, smiling inwardly at the surprise his hosts would receive when he appeared for breakfast

He swept open the door to be greeted by astounded stares from a group of strangers seated at the breakfast table. Amid stammering explanations on his part and much laughter from the occupants he was told that his friends were overseas and had sub-let their house. He is stili not certain what he would have done had his bed been already occupied.
