Coke quality
Sir, —If I understand the reply by the Christchurch Gas Company to my earlier letter, it would seem to include a tacit admission that the coke supplied is of inferior quality. Part of the cause of the clinkering is apparently dirty coke—the coke was collected from the company from a wet sludge heap
stored in the open; from that moment on it has been stored in a clean dry shed with solid floor. The dirt obviously was purchased with the product. The coke has been burnt in a space heater under identical conditions to the previous year—last year two weeks continual burning between cleaning out, this year approximately 12 hours. It has become even worse. The attempt to shift blame by suggesting more regular cleaning prompts the further question: is every 12 hours frequent enough? — Yours, etc.,
