Top marks to Chch typist

A young Christchurch girl, who earlier this year passed the Grade 1 Trade Certification Board shorthand-typing examination with the highest marks in the country, has now passed both the Grade 2 and Grade 3 examinations after a further eight months tuition.

Cyd Donaldson, who is 17, passed her Stage 1 examination with a result of 98 per cent after only 10 months at the Ritchie Secretarial College. On Monday she learned that she had achieved a 94 per cent mark for the Grade 2 examination and a 76 per cent pass for Grade 3. The pass rate for the Grade 3 examination is 20 per cent. As well as T.C.B. examinations, Cyd also has a first grade pass in advanced typing and a Pitmans shorthand speed of 150 words per minute.

Cyd went to Ritchie’s Secretarial College after leaving Riccarton High School with her School Certificate in non-commercial subjects. Mrs Ritchie, her teacher, said she had done remarkably well in the time she had been there and the results she had achieved were rare throughout the country. Cyd began work three weeks ago with the science department of the University of Canterbury as a shorthand typist.
