Positive test on Trepan
NZPA-Reuter London; The French-trained celt Trepan, winner of the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on July 3, came up positive in a dope test for the second time this season, the Jockey Ciub announced this week. Trepan, trained near Paris by Francois Boutin, is already the subject of a Jockey Club inquiry after failing a similar dope test after his victory in the
■Prince of Wales Stakes at Ascot in June. The horse holds the course record for a mile and a quarter at both Ascot and Sandown. After the Ascot test had shown traces of the illegal drug caffeine in Trepan, Boutin said he administered a diuretic to all his horses three days before they race or travel. "In this case, because of an error by one of my stable staff, the substance was given to Trepan 34 hours before his race,” he saidNo details have been given of the nature of the substance found in the sample after the Sundown race. As the rules stand, Trepan could lose both races, worth a total of about £50,000 in prize money.
Fillies’ classic. The French filly, Lagunette, ridden by Philippe Paquet, won the Irish Oaks at the Curragh, on Saturday. Lagunette (3-to-l) finished two lengths ahead of Sarah Siddons (4-to-l) of Ireland, with I’v a Bee (12-to-l) a short head behind in third place. The French entry Acoma (9-to-4 favourite), was blocked in early on and was never in the running.— Dublin.
