Talent quest
“Opportunity Knocks” reaches the first of five semi-finals on Thursday night, featuring the winners of the 20 heats in the 1976 series. The grand final will be held in Christchurch in late August. A high sport of Thursday’s programme will be a short film on the organist Richard Hore of Christ - church, the 1975 “Opportunity Knocks” winner. He will be seen performing at the Hotel Tanoa, Fiji. The first of the eight piece Royale Accordian Orchestra from Christchurch, playing “Allegro From Eine Kleine Nachtmasik,” and then Brinwood and Owen, two 28year old men from Mur-
rays Bay in Auckland sing “New York Mining Disaster.” Seven-year-old Shannon Fulton of Avondale sings “Frosty the Snowman,” with a snowman as a prop; Glenda Aitkenhead of Pokeno Valley sings “Speak Softly Love;” Ged, a girl singer and two men with guitars from Christchurch perform “Some Day Soon;” Des Savage of Hamilton East plays his guitar, sings and yodels to “Love Knot in My Lariat;” 11-year old Freddie Hemara of Mangere East in Auckland sings “Ben;” and the Sequinettes, three girls from Papatoetoe, dance to “Baubles Bangles and Beads."
