Changes to Allegro

The Mark If version of the Austin Allegro is now available in this country. It was introduced by British Leyland for the British market last year. Among the improvements is an extra three inches of leg room for rear seat passengers, without any appreciable loss of luggage space in the boot. A new style of grille, new front and rear badges and a black splash strip running the full length of the car below the doors, give the new Allegro a sleeker look. There is new instrumentation, with the addition of separate temperature and fuel gauges. Under the bonnet a new engine mounting system has been designed to reduce engine noise. Some of the improvements in the Mark II version sold in Britain had actually been incorporated in the Mark I version when assembly of the Allegro began in New Zealand last year.
