Resistance hero held in Italy

(N.Z.P.A Reuter—Copyright} TURIN The Turin police have announced the arrest of a former Resistance hero and career diplomat on charges of plotting against the Head of State in an attempt to launch a Right-wing coup d’etat. Edgardo Sogno and another man were detained last night after an investigation lasting more than two years. Sogno, known during the Second World War by his nom de guerre. Commander Franchi, was a leader of Italy’s non-Communist Resistance fighters, and later formed a group called "Resistenza Democratica (Democratic Resistance) to oppose the Communist Party He is now a leading figure on the Right wing of the small Liberal Party. After the war he worked as a diplomat in several countries. including the United States and Burma The charges against him arise from magisterial investigations into a series of Right-wing plot allegations in recent years.
