Lang won the Sydney Cup on Oopik at Easter but returned home after riding the gelding into fourth place in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Oopik was left in Sydney with the possibility of being sold, or flying home early this week, but his owner. Mr Don Wilson, of Hamilton, later decided to send him to the big Brisbane races, including the 3200 m Brisbane Cup. Lang is coming to Australia at the request of Harold Riley, the former New Zealand trainer, who has been handling Oopik at his Warwick Farm stables Riley said Oopik had been pulling hard and cuttings his mouth, and he had phoned Lang to discuss the problem.
