Instalment on rates due soon
The deadline for the fir't rates instalment is May 15 for about half .of the Christchurch City Council's rate, payers, and $374,000 of the s2m bill had been paid by Tuesday. Because the deadline falls on a Saturday, no 10 per cent penalty will be added to bills if they are paid by 4.30 p.m. on the following Monday. The Rates Supervisor (Mr W. K. Hann) again urged [those persons receiving rates [rebates to send their application forms with the first 'instalment. Under the new system, rebates will start being deducted from the second instalment bill because the !first instalment is based on past year’s rates. I Mr Hann said that most [people were getting used to the system, and there were fewer problems with people [sending their first instalment [notices back to the council [by mistake, thinking they [were rates assessments. | Assessments will be mailed with the second instalment for each of the city's two areas.
