Lecturer wins fellowship
Mr Apirana Mahuika, a lecturer in Maori studies at Massey University, has been awarded the Queen Elizabeth 11 post-graduate fellowship lor 1976. the Maori Education Foundation has announced. The purpose of the fellowship is to enable postgraduate research, or study. >f benefit to the Maori people. .Mr Mahuika is from Ruatoria. on the East Coast, where he is a member of the Ngati Porou tribe He is qualified with a licentiate in theology, a B A. from Auckland University and an M.A. from Sydney University Mr Mahuika will use the award to complete a ihesis for his doctorate at Massey University. His research will [compare kawa — Maori protocol concerning al! areas of Maoritanga — among Hie various traibes This will be study from a Maori point of view and will involve visiting Maori communities.
