Support for community centre
Support for the establishment of a community centre in the Heathcote Valiev was given by rhe works and re-; serves committee of the Heathcote County Council at.. its meeting on Monday night.! The committee chairman (Cr J. S. Scott) said that ai-! ;hough money could not be! provided for an immediate start to the project finance; would eventually be set aside; towards the project from the! reserves fund. Mr T. P. Wills, the secre-l tary of the Heathcote Valievi Community Centre Corn-: mittee, wlin led a three-man i deputation to meet the council’s committee, said thej building would cost about! $BO,OOO. would cover a floor area of about 3800 sq. ft, and; would be sited adjacent to! Bridle Path Road where thei cricket paviliqn stands. Mr Wills said the cotnmun-! ity centre committee was! very active in its desire to' obtain a centre for the valley, and that in this it was sup-; ported by a variety of organ-[ isations and clubs in the area.! At present the committee’s, bank balance was $4745, and j it had set itself a target of! obtaining $4OOO a year by' various fund-raising activ- j ities. While the works and re-1 serves committee promised! financial support in the future it also decided the project! would have to take its turn ’ with other social facilities; planned within the county. •
