Folk music attraction

Only three seats are left for “Folk Mosiac” —a Arts Festival attraction which was virtually booked out a week before the festival began. “Folk Mosaic, ’ as its name suggests, is a survey of five categories of folk music — early minstrel and part songs, the folk element in lieder, in opera, in nationalism. and in the twentieth century. Each groups covers a wide range of composers and texts. The artists are. Anne Price, who returned to New Zealand from Britain in 1974, ' and the Aurelian Singers, a male quartet formed in the; same year. They will perform I in the State Trinity Centre. this evening.

Anne Price studied for four years at the Guildhall, and for two years at the London Opera Centre. For six years she gained professional opera, oratorio, and recital experience in Britain, and made a particular study of | lieder. i The members of the Aurelian Singers are Peter

Williams, tenor, who pla <= Don Basilio in the “Marriage of Figaro” last year; John Harker, baritone, whose forte is light opera and musical comedy; Malcolm Anderson, also baritone and seasoned singer in small vocal ensembles with wide-ranging repertoires; and Howard Harvey, bass, an oratorio soloist, who was a semifinalist in the last Mobil song quest. Their fare, as a quartet, ranges from barbers’ shop ballads to madrigals, and from lieder to art songs by contemporary composers.
