Remits thrown out
Attempts to introduce inter-: club transfer fees and to in-j crease the numjjer of premier grade teams for the 1976 season I to 12 were not successful at: last evening’s annual meeting; of the Canterbury Rugby| League. Six remits presented by the: Papanui club, calling for transfer payments ranging from $BOO for international players to $2OO, made no more impact than in past years. It now seems certain that the decision made some months ago by the league’s board of control to have an eight-sided piemiership will be confirmed. Linwood sponsored a recommendation that 12 clubs he involved in a full round before being divided into two sections, The championship would eventually conclude with a grand final, with the season to be completed by a knock-out tournament.
A second Papanui remit, that ; Canterbury premier selectors and coaches not be permitted Ito hold similar positions with : open grade club sides, fared | better and will be entered in • ‘ the code’s constitution. However, Papanuis suggestion i that senior officers be relieved of votes at special and general meetings did not find favour. Nor did a remit from MaristWestern Suburbs seeking a change in the voting format to allow each club only one vote.' regardless of the number of; teams entered. THREE CHANGES Three changes have been made among the league’s officers. Mr W. L. Prendergast replaced Mr W. A. Whitehead as a vice-president, and Messrs D L. Blanchard and J, L. White have taken the positions previously filled by Messrs D J. Al sop and D. Kerr on the board of control.
