RANDOM REMINDER

THE WAITING GAME

Grandparents are very often cast in the role of baby-sitters, a task for which they are ideally suited as a rule, and for which they are regularly willing volunteers. It is only natural that young couples entrust their most cherished posses* sions to the senior members of the family. This was not quite the deal, however, with a Christchurch couple who have a married son and a

married daughter. The son and his wife proposed to go away for a holiday, so did the daughter arid her husband. Both couples arranged with the parents to perform the usual services of custodian. But did they bring round a collection of family sterotypes to be looked after? It was sterograms, etc. Neither couple has a child as yet. But they do have an

enormous collection of valuable goods. So the home-based force stood guard over television sets, radiogrammes, stereo equipment, spare cars and radios. It was an impressive array: so impressive, they were frightened to leave the premises. Or even to. answer the door, for fear they had attracted the attention of the police, as a couple of up-and-coming fences.
