Taiwanese consulate closed
( N.Z.P.A.Reuter — Copyright) JAKARTA, Jan. 11. Pro-lndonesian forces in Portuguese East Timor have closed down the Taiwanese consulate in the capital. Dili, in line with Indonesia’s foreign policy, according to her Foreign Minister (Mr Adam Malik). , Speaking last night after returning from a lightning visit to the territory, Mr Malik said he had been informed of this by the selfproclaimed provisional government of East Timor, which wants the colony integrated with Indonesia. Indonesia has diplomatic relations with China, although these have been frozen since the abortive Communist-led coup in 1965. There are about 30,000 Chinese in East Timor, who control virtually all commerce. The Taiwanese Consulate in Dili was the only diplomatic mission functioning there apart from the Indonesian consulate, which was vacated early on in the bitter three-month" civil war between pro-lndonesian and Left-wing independence forces.
