Strong trend continues on Aust. market
Australian stock exchanges closed on a firmer note in moderately active trading for the second consecutive session yesterday.
Buyers appeared in greater numbers as the session wore on, and despite sporadic profit-taking, the trend remained strong. B.H.P. rose 10c to 714 c, and the Wales showed a parallel gain at 674 c. Other banks, financiers, retailers, and brewers also sought higher levels on sustained buying support. Philip Morris broke through the 1000 c mark again with a 40c gain to 1030 c. 8.M.1., Mercantile Mutual, ICI, Comalco, and Jennings were a little easier. Among the miners, C.R.A., Pancontinental, Ampol Exploration, and WoodsideBurmah were a little weaker, but Bougainville recaptured the 100 c mark and M.I.M. advanced 7c to 222 c. B.H.
