WALKER TO RACE A MILE

(N.Z. Press Association' AUCKLAND John Walker will race his first mile in New Zealand this season at his home-club ground in the second Manurewa Invitation All Stars twilight meeting on Sunday evening. Rod Dixon (Nelson) and possibly the New Zealand 1500 metres champion. Stuart Melville (Otago) are two strong entrants, together with W. Madden and B. Bennett, of Auckland. The main women's event, the invitation 800 m, will feature the Commonwealth Games silver medallist Sue Haden, Anne Garrett, Shirley Sommervell, Heather Thomson, Barbara Moore. Sharon Thompson. and Mary Baker. Attempts are being made to persuade Dianne Zorn (Napier). who almost qualified for the Olympic Games standard at Tauranga on New Year's Day in the 1500 m. to travel up for the race.
