There is financial provision for a half salary at the level of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor, the status of the appointee to be determined by experience and qualifications. Consideration of higher academic status would be given if the applicant already holds full professorial status or has exceptional professional seniority. To allow an applicant the opportunity to continue clinical or academic work, negotiations will be undertaken on his or her behalf to provide an appropriate appointment in a clinical (or other) department of the school this appointment to form the basis for an additional half salary required to make the post a full-time one. Salaries for medically qualified staff are fixed at ranges of Lecturers $10,854 to $15,379, Senior Lecturers $15,816 to $18,177, and Associate Professors $19,093 to $21,708 per annum. THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY RESEARCH SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW/ RESEARCH FELLOW EDUCATION RESEARCH UNIT APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED for appointment to the above position from social scientists with Ph.D. or equivalent qualification to work in a multi-disciplinary unit concerned with studies of education and society. The disciplines covered are social psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, politics and education. The appointee will have the opportunity to take part in project work as well as pursue individual research interests. The Unit’s research includes studies of students and planning in higher education, the processes and social effects of schooling at secondary level and investigations of Australian education from a national and systems-level perspective. The Unit, established by the Director of the Research School (Professor R. Street, F.A.A.), is undertaking an experimental research programme generally in Magnetism and Low Temperature Physics. Current work is concerned with the magnetic and thermodynamic properties of alloys. The programme may be extended to other specific areas according to the interests of the appointees. High magnetic field (up to 30T) solenoids and other supporting facilities are available. It is expected that successful applicants will have a background of achievement in Solid State Physics and a mastery of a range of relevant experimental techniques.
