Power rise and pollution
The increase in the price of electricity will increase ithe use of coal, and there- ■ fore pollution will increase, according to the president of Ithe Clean Air Society (Mrs J. Holm). I The society claims that (there is a hidden subsidy on (coal because it is mined at a loss, which is covered by (the Consolidated Fund. | Mrs Holm said that the I society felt that if this “hidden subsidy” was removed, |it would discourage the use iof coal. i If the subsidy was removed, it would make ail fuels fairly priced. The electricity rise would discourage its use. said Mrs Holm.
