Bad luck for Waimate
(N.Z. Press Association) O AMARU. Bad luck dogged the Waimate Trotting Club when the quinellas and doubles machines in the totalisator broke down al j Oamaru on Saturday. The trouble occurred when quinella tickets were being soldon the fifth race and had not ; been rectified before selling! time for the first leg of ttiei T A.B. double, the Waimate Cup. The chief stipendiary steward: 'Mr L. A. Butterfield) said that I such breakdowns occurred “on’ and off" at meetings at other ; centres but were rectified by , mechanics. On this occasion, however, there were no spare parts for ! the malfunctioning equipment and it could not be fixed. Mr Butterfield said the off-course double was run for off-course betters only Repairs were effected in time, !fnr quinella betting on the last! I two races.
