Jan’s Lady relegated P. Thistoll suspended
Jan's Lady was relegated to second and her rider. P. B. Thistoll. was suspended up till and including December 20 by the Canterbury Jockey Club's judicial committee after an inquiry into the Amuri Handicap, third leg of the on-course treble at Riccarton on Saturday. Thistoll was found guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to nin in and take the line of High Lake (S. McGovern) when not sufficiently clear. After hearing all relevant evidence and viewing films of the incident, which took piace about 200 metres front the finish, and taking into account their own observations, the committee decided that the interference was sufficient to relegate Jan’s
Lady and promote High Lake to first. In fixing Thistoll’s penalty, the committee took into account his creditable raceriding record. The payment of the win dividend for Joe Khan (I. R. Grant) in the second division of the Malvern Handicap was withheld pending the result of protest lodged by G. R. Gullery, rider of the runner-up. Duke of York. alleging that his mount had received interference at the 1000-metre mark. After hearing all relevant evidence and viewing a film of the incident the committee dismissed the protest because the evidence was inconclusive but refunded Gullery's S2O deposit, as they considered the protest had not been frivolous.
