Brother meets strong demand

Brother Distributors, Ltd, is meeting with strong demand, and the directors say in the half-yearly report tor the six months to September 30 that they expect profit for the full year to be at least as good as last year. The Brother Model KH-820 knitting machine has proved a phenomenal success and has captured a large section of the market, the directors say. Just recently Brother have produced a new model sewing machine, the “Shangri-la.” This versatile machine has particular appeal to the younger generation with its new range of stretch stitches and its very attractive price of only $2lO. Stretch stitch sewing is becoming increasingly popular and Brother is meeting the demand with the “Shangri-la” and Bevknit stretch patterns.

"The demand for our knitting and sewing machines has continued strongly throughout the last six months, resulting in an increase of 23 per cent in turnover.

"Costs have risen substantially during this half year, particularly in wages and sales promotion, but your directors are confident that the year will produce a result at least as good as that for the last year.

“An interim dividend of 4c a share has been declared, the same as last year, but on this occasion one-quarter of the dividend is being paid out of realised capital reserves and will be free of tax to shareholders.”
