Fire row taken over by F.O.L.
The firemen's wage dispute has been officially handed over to the Federation of Labour. A delegation of firemen met members of the F.O.L.’s national executive in Wellington this afternoon. The F.O.L. president (Mr T. E. 'Skinner) said the federation would take up the problem with the Fire Services Commission as soon as possible. If the F.O.L.’s approach to the commission fails, the firemen’s executive would recommend a strike, said Mr Skinner.
A meeting of representatives of five firemen’s unions throughout the country on Monday night decided to ask for F.O.L. assistance.
: The federation had tried to 'contact the commission today [but was not successful, Mr 'Skinner said. He would try [to have negotiations reopened because the commission had made a final wage determination without consultation and negotiation. The determination is due to go before the State Services Tribunal on Monday for ratification.
