FRENCH TESTS
Concern at ; U.N. [ GV.Z, Press Pssn—CopursphtS NEW YORK, Dec. 9. The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution expressing deep concern over France’s testing of nuclear weapons in the South Pacific. The resolution, recommended by the Assembly’s colonial committee, also reaffirmed the right of the people in the South Pacific islands of New Hebrides, Pitcairn, and Tuvalu to selfdetermination and independence.
France cast the lone dissenting vote on the measure, which cleared the Assembly by 121 votes to one. The 11 abstaining countries were: Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Denmark, (Ireland. Italy, West Germany, (Greece, Israel and the United i States. The resolution welcomed Britain’s positive attitude in receiving in its territories (visiting missions from the United Nations Special Com(mittee on Colonialism, but (strongly deplored France’s refusal to co-operate with the committee in its examination of the territory of the New Hebrides.
