European Communists
Sir, — The latest revelation by Victor Zorza, (“The Press,” December 4), that the Kremlin fears the possible accession to power of Western Europe’s Communist parties, or the formation of a bloc of West European Socialist countries because “of the political threat which Western Communist parties, with their, democratic traditions, might pose to the totalitarian aspects of the Soviet system,” and that “they (the Soviet leaders) see West European Communists as a greater menace to the Soviet system than any political threat posed to it by Western ‘capitalists’,” suggests an obviously simple solution to the problem of the unpleasant fact of the existence of the Soviet Union. All possible aid should be given to the Communist parties of France, Italy and West Germany, by Western leaders, to ensure their becoming the governments of their respective countries; then confidently await the inevitable collapse of the Soviet system. — Yours, etc., M.C.H. December 8, 1975.
