Quality antiques sell
Despite fears to the contrary by the auctioneers, George Anderson and Son, Ltd, the recent sale of effects of the late Mrs Tracy Gough did not affect their traditional Show Week auction. held yesterday. Good prices were paid at the auction for quality items. The highest price realised was $2480 for a nine-piece Victorian walnut suite, which was sold in four different lots and for which bidding was keen.
A brass figurine, with a clock above, sold for $375; a lady’s Victorian rosewood davenport for $700; a Victorian walnut chair for $225; an unsigned Bin by 6in religious painting, in a wooden hinged case, for $610; a pair of Royal Dux dogs for $325; and a signed Royal Doulton vase for $6OO. Even a Torricelli-improved barometer, which was not working, went under the hammer for $l4O. Public interest in the auction was steady throughout the day, with about 450 attending at its busiest period. The auctioneers were Messrs W. Anderson and B. Watson.
