Early morning and evening flights between our cities seem to belong to the two-button suit brigade. They shuttle between appointments and conferences like suburban commuters, packing not much more than an attache case and a toothbrush. Always last on the aircraft and first to the taxis, they reap the benefits of travelling really light. Thein’s is an example that’s worth following on holiday trips, even if onlv in principle. If the prospect of even a short trip brings on that awful “what am I going to take" feeling, there are a few basic guidelines the well-travelled use to avoid panic. Faye Woolley is always on the move. As the South Island manager of Travelglobe Holidays. Ltd—she opened the local branch earlier this year—she has to keep up to date on developments in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Islands. And she travels for the sheer enjoyment of it. too. A cool, elegant young woman, she packs for maximum efficiency. Trousers Her cardinal rule is to take clothes that are washable, drip-dry and noniron. She always includes several pairs of trousers because she finds them most comfortable on a journey. A couple of long dresses for the evening are a must, and lots of jewellery to dress things up or down. A smart jacket to slip on over tailored slacks enables her to look well groomed for business appointments on her busy schedule. Easy fitting clothes. like today’s biascut skirts, are favourites. She recalls with nostalgia a long culotte that went everywhere with her when she travelled in Canada and the United States a few year,s ago.

On her most recent flying visit to Australia I Brisbane, Surfers Paradise, Sydney, and Melbourne), a few weeks ago. Faye changed to long skirts and casual tops, adding the French costume jewellery she buys duty-free. Sally Nurse caught the travel bug while on a working holiday in Europe several years ago. graphed her at the airport she was off on a threeweek trip to Canada and the United States. After the photographic session — she had worked the 6 a.m. till 2 p.m. shift — she was off home to pack. Sally has to cater for two climates She and a colleague, Sally Loe. are going on a bus trip through the Rockies, and on the way home she is spending several days in Hawaii. “I always take too much, so this time I'm limiting myself to velvet slacks and jacket, jeans for travelling in the bus and sightseeing, a couple of skirts, changes of shirts, a heavy sweater and a raincoat. “And I’m leaving room in my suitcases for a few extra things because I always like to buy some clothes when I'm away.”
