Early start for surfing titles

Competitors in the Radio Avon-Coca Cola South Island surfing championships will have to rise early today and tomorrow.

Eliminations for the $1250 in prize-money will start this morning at 6.30 a.m. and continue until 10 a.m. Tomorrow they will start at 7 a.m. and finish about mid-day. The finals on Sunday will be later—--10 a.m. to I p.m. There are 63 entrants for the championships, in two sections—for board-riders, and kneeboard-riders. The major part of the prizemoney, $ll5O, will go to the board-riders, the winner receiving $5OO.
