Recreation grants

A positive indication of the need for the Government’s recreation and sport programme was the response from local organisations, said the Minister of Recreation and Sport (Mr Walding) when announcing project subsidies. The programme was now in its third year and the projects had been recommended to Mr Walding by the Local Authorities Consultative Committee. The Paparua County Council area has been allocated subsidies of $21,630; Heathcote County Council area, $5901; Mount Herbert County area, $504; Lyttelton town district area, $2240; Wairewa County Council area, $462; Akaroa County Council area. $1064; Rangiora Borough Council area. $3850; Eyre County Council area, $1939; Ashley County Council area, $2079; Buller County Council and Westport Borough Council area, $5544.
