No word of 60 nuns
(N'.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Nov. 13. No word about the safety of 60 Vietnamese nuns has filtered out of South Vietnam since the country fell into Communist hands in April. Sister Mary Laurence, one lof two New Zealand nuns captured and held by the Communists for seven weeks earlier this year, said in Hamilton yesterday that she was worried about the nuns’ [safety. “But we know there is nothing we can do but pray for them.” She was speaking to a group of about 200 Young Women’s Christian Association members at a luncheon. The lack of news from South Vietnam was “fishy,” she said. It was impossible to make contact with anyone there, so she had not attempted to write. “I am sure the sisters will be finding things difficult. We do not know they are not teaching, and as far as I know thev will just be trying to cultivate the ground and raise crons.”
Food would be a big problem, too. she said. “There wasn’t enough food before we left, and now many rice crops have been abandoned.
