Medical-fee inquiry
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The Minister of Health (Mr McGuigan) and the Medical Association of New Zealand have agreed that a proper inquiry should be made into allegations of doctors’ charging and misconduct relating to. social security health benefits.
Mr McGuigan said that he and the Medical Association agreed at a meeting that the allegations should be investigated through the Medical Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee.
He had undertaken to obtain further information on the charges as the disciplinary committee considered the anonymohs charges unsuitable in their present form for an inquiry. The association suggested that relations between the Government and the medical profession might be prejudiced if further charges and counter charges continued. The Minister and the Medical Association agreed that there was adequate statutory disciplinary machinery for the investigation of the aliegations, said Mr McGuigan.
