Japan buys more coal

C.K.Z.P. A.-Reuter —Copyright) TOKYO. The Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry reports that coal imports in the 1974 fiscal [year totalled 64,576,000 tonnes, 6,270,000 tonnes more than in the previous fiscal year.

The total comprised 62,709.000 tonnes of coking coal (up 5,842,000 tonnes), 1.495,000 tonnes of anthracite (up 312,000 tonnes), and 372,000 tonnes of steaming coal (none previously).

The United States was the leading supplier of coking

coal, shipping 25,576.000 tonnes, followed by Australia (23,053,000 tonnes), Canada (9,218,000 tonnes), the Soviet Union (3,088,000 tonnes), and Poland (308,000 tonnes).

The Ministry said that Japan imported 668.000 tonnes of anthracite from North Vietnam. 363,000 tonnes from China, and 232,000 tonnes from North Korea.

Australia supplied 194.000 tonnes of. steaming coal last year, the Soviet Union 97,000 tonnes, and China 69,000 tonnes
