Tuitaupe outpointed

Tito Tuitaupe (Woolston W.M.C.) lost an Important bout in his career when he was clearly outpointed by Kelvin Rolls (Feilding) in the main bout of the Canterbury Boxing Association’s tournament held at the Woolston W.M.C. last evening.

Both boxers punished each other severely with a wide range of punches throughout the three rounds. Tuitaupe, the better boxer, took an early lead when he won the first round.

His superb counter-punching proved more effective than the fusty blows of the aggressive Rolls. In this round. Tuituape, a southpaw, put Rolls on the canvas for a compulsory count of eight, with a splendid left cross—the best punch of the fight. Half-way through round two, the strength of the bruising Rolls began to tell, and Tuituape was obviously beginning to tire. Rolls put Tuituape through the ropes in this round, and from then on, dictated the terms of the fight. In the last round, Tuituape

showed courage to stand up well against his big-punching opponent, but as the round wore on Rolls built up an unassailable points lead. The second major bout of the programme was a non-stop affair between two aggressive, tearaway fighters, Rhys Morgan (Irish Youth Club), and Malcolm Platt (Woolston W.M.C.). Morgan continually took the fight to the cagler Platt in the best battle the two have put on in their five encounters over the last two years. Morgan was adjudged the winner by the closest of majority decisions, a result that was popular with the crowd. Clive Bishop, a diminutive, blond youngster from the neWlyformed Burwood club, won the hearts of the audience with a furious and courageous lastround onslaught against his taller and heavier opponent. Trevor Palmer (Linwood Boys Club).

Palmer, a more correct boxer, won the bout on a split decision often building up a handy lead with his good straight left in the first two rounds. Other results:—

John Menzies (Irish Y.C.) beat Kevin Nicol (Crlehton Cobbers); Kevin Anderson (Crichton Cobbers) beat Dean Riordan (Irlah Y.C.); R. Adamson (Woolston W.M.C.) beat Brent Bowman (Richmond W.M.C.); W. Henderson (Woolston W.M.C.) beat Kerry Kerr (Crichton Cobberai; Karl Downle (Burwood) beat Paul Shatford (New Brighton R.S.A.); Brent Palmer (Linwood) beat Steven Ross (Woolston W.M.C.); Rex Molloy (Linwood: beat Philip Bowman (Richmond W.M.C.); Rhys Lucinsky (Richmond W.M.C.) beat Marcelion Penei (Fldows). The judges were Messrs E. G. Pocock, H. Lloyd, and T. A. Wildes, and the referee was Mr M. V. Drury.
