Orchestra trust to be registered
The proposed Christchurch Symphony Orchestra Trust was expected to be registered as an incorporated society this week, the chairman of the interim management committee (Mr D. B. Rich) said last evening. Trustees already selected are Mr Rich, who is the chairman of the Waimairi County Council, the Mayor of Riccarton (Mr R. W. J. Harrington), the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr H. G. Hay), the professor of music at the University of Canterbury (Professor J. A. Ritchie), who is also a former conductor of the orchestra, and a former secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Musicians’ Union, Mr B. Marston. Mr Marston is a player with the orchestra. Two further trustees are yet to be selected. One will be named by the trust soon, and the other will be elected bv the players after the formation of the trust.
Mr Rich said last evening that the interim committee was also taking steps to obtain a leader for the orchestra. and that the appointment of an interim secretarymanager would be announced soon.
