Bus stop change

Sir. Would the Christchurch Transport Board, kindly give some explanation as to their reason for moving the Rhodes Street bus stop? To say that the move is essential, for public safety, could not possibly apply, as this is a one-way street, and no motorist could possibly run into a stationary bus on this stop. At a time when parking for private cars is at a premium, it seems strange that a bus-stop, at present taking space for two carparks, should move approximately 100 yards, thus taking space for four cars. — Yours etc., PARKING LOT.

February 10, 1975. • [The general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board replies: “The initial request for the stop to be moved came from a resident of Rhodes Street who was having a new driveway constructed. In selecting the new site the opportunity was taken, in conjunction with the road .controlling authority (the City Council) to improve visibility for buses pulling out and to give a more adequately-sized stop.”]
